Mars

Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. It is 227.9 million km from the sun. It is the third smallest planet in the solar system. The surface of Mars is made up of rock and dust. Mars is like the earth it has a thick core, a middle layer called a mantle, and a hard crust. It is believed that there is water on Mars in the form of ice.

It is possible that there is also water below its surface. A picture of mars show that it has hundreds of channels that seem to have been formed by flowing water. This seems to indicate that Mars had streams and shallow seas millions of years ago. The diameter of mars is 6,794 km. The surface of Mars has canyons, dunes, volcanos and formations of water ice and carbon dioxide ice.

It takes Mars 686 days to orbit the sun. The size of Mars is about half the size of the earth in diameter. 95% of Mars is carbon dioxide. It takes 687 earth days to rotate around the sun. From the earth mars at its closest point of its orbit is 56 million km. Mars has 2 satellites. The temperature on Mars is as low as -187șc.
